2022 Moonshine Trail cancellation

Active Southland has made the tough decision not to run the Moonshine Trail event in 2022.

While it is disappointing to add this popular outing to the long list of events which have been cancelled or postponed across Southland and New Zealand, we don’t believe we would be able to deliver the sort of quality event the community deserves given the uncertainty created by the Covid-19 pandemic.

When we looked at our planning for a 2022 event, which had already been delayed while waiting for the new Covid-19 protection framework to be released, the only thing that was certain was that we just don’t know what effect community transmission will have in Southland in the new year.

The Moonshine Trail is also held in a public space and across a wide geography and presents some other location challenges which makes abiding by the framework extremely challenging.

In making this decision we have engaged with key partners including naming rights sponsor the Mataura Licensing Trust and we have been buoyed by the support and understanding from them.

We look forward to being back with another outstanding Moonshine Trail in 2023.
